GEORGE BROWN COLLEGE
GBC students win gold, silver and bronze at Skills Ontario competition

May 10, 2023

George Brown College (GBC) students racked up serious hardware at the 2023 Skills Ontario competition, winning three gold medals, a silver and a bronze.

Our students' performances matched GBC's increased presence at the Skills Ontario event this year, with competitors from the Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (CHCA) winning gold in three categories and a silver. And GBC was well represented in the Sheet Metal category, with a student from the Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies winning bronze.

The GBC gold medal winners Chloe Nguyen (Baking category) and Negus King (Culinary Arts category) move on to the Skills Canada national competition May 25-26.

"The CHCA students were professional, focused and driven to succeed in the competition," said instructor and coach Chef Riley Bennett.

"Each competitor showed poise, commitment, dedication, and professionalism throughout the entire competition. We are looking to bring that same level of standards to Skills Canada National Competition representing George Brown College and Team Ontario."

George Brown College also won bronze for best booth at the event for our interactive display.
