CAMBRIAN COLLEGE
Cambrian College Celebrates Employees

June 13, 2023

It is not just student achievement and graduation that Cambrian College celebrates at this time of year: it is also the success and "graduation" of employees.

Cambrian held its annual Rendez-Vous event this week. At Rendez-Vous, Cambrian celebrates its longest-serving and recently retired employees, as well as exceptional service.

At the Rendez-Vous ceremony, President Kristine Morrissey and Board Chair Jeff Smith honoured new retirees and employees who have reached 20, 25, and 35 years of service.

"In these days of employees changing jobs every five years or even less, to know we've had staff coming in everyday for decades is truly an indication of the atmosphere here at Cambrian," says Kristine Morrissey, president of Cambrian College. "We're so proud of our employees who've reached milestone years in their time with us. We're also so happy for our recent retirees who are entering new phases in their lives. Thank you for giving us your best years. We will miss you but we're so excited for where life takes you next."

A major highlight of Rendez-Vous is the presentation of the President's Award for Excellence, for outstanding contributions over the previous year.

This year's winners are:

Faculty Category: Myles Peterson

Myles is a professor and coordinator of Cambrian's Computer Systems and Cybersecurity programs. He is being honoured for his technical expertise, the quality of his teaching, and his support and encouragement of students. Myles is a key organizer and presenter in Cambrian's annual Women in Tech event, to encourage young women to pursue computer technology.

Administration Category: Dr. Mike Commito

Under the Patient Partnership Initiative, volunteer patients and family members share with students their first-hand experiences with the health care system.

Outstanding Service by an Individual: Angela Gilmore

"I want to congratulate all of this year's award winners, retirees and those long-term employees who have made Cambrian the great place it is today," adds Morrissey. "I'm proud to let everyone know that at Cambrian we value our employees. They are important leaders in a larger family, and they are what makes us the leading place to learn and work in Northern Ontario."
