Last week, a diverse group of engaged parties from the work-integrated Learning (WIL) community gathered in Ottawa for two impactful events, WIL on the Hill and the 4th Edition of the National Conversation on WIL. These events aimed to highlight the crucial role of WIL in driving economic success and fostering innovation across Canada.
Work-integrated learning, which combines classroom education with real-world work experiences, has emerged as a transformative force in equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to thrive in today's rapidly evolving job market. Recognizing its immense value, advocates from education institutions, industry partners, government representatives, and students convened to champion the cause of WIL and initiate two days of conversations.
The discussions held throughout the events revolved around the profound impact of WIL on economic success and focused on key themes such as industry collaboration, skill development, removing barriers for equity deserving students and fostering a culture of innovation. Participants explored innovative strategies, shared best practices, and exchanged ideas to further propel WIL as a solution to complex economic issues across the country.

WIL on the Hill Advocacy Day seeks to raise awareness among government officials and policymakers about the immense value of WIL in addressing skills shortages, cultivating talent, and unlocking the potential of Canadian students. The goa; is to ensure that WIL remains a central pillar of Canada's education system and economic development agenda.
The National Conversation aims to bring together post-secondary institutions, industry, community, government and partner organizations to discuss the importance of WIL in Canada. The event will culminate in a series of recommendations and actionable strategies that will be shared with key decision-makers and stakeholders, advocating for continued investment and support for WIL across country. Over 45 different organizations were in attendance at this year's event.
