ASSOCIATION POUR LA RECHERCHE AU COLLÉGIAL
First meeting of ARC's new community of practice for members of research ethics boards

The Association pour la recherche au collégial (ARC) will hold the first meeting of its new community of practice for members and coordinators of college research ethics boards (REBs), on September 28, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  This activity will take place online.

Since 2007, ARC has offered a multitude of research ethics activities, including 15 REB workshops tailored specifically to REB members, dozens of training sessions for the college community at large, and two colloquiums at Acfas annual conventions, not to mention a training day for inter-level teams. It has also published guides, contributed to the creation of the Forum québécois en éthique de la recherche, and set up a research ethics working group within its community of practice for research advisors. ARC also consulted with the REB chairs on creating a community for REB members. This meeting and initiative proved to be very timely, laying the groundwork for more concrete ideas moving forward. In fact, this initial networking activity proved to be very popular, with participants stating their willingness to continue building relationships and sharing information, practices and documents about the creation and operation of REBs. Finally, ARC's close ties with the College research ethics boards (REBs): mandate, governance and resources project is a source of additional information in terms of planning activities for the current and upcoming years. The new community's meetings will also help to build trust between the various REBs.

To encourage open exchanges and maximum participation, discussions at the first meeting of the community of practice for members of REBs will take place in both French and English, and the session will be held live (in real time only). This activity is reserved for REB members and coordinators who are either members in good standing of ARC or members of the REB of a college having made an institutional contribution to ARC.
