Every year, high achieving, exceptional graduates from Ontario's public colleges are honoured for their outstanding contributions to society.
They are the nominees for the Premier's Awards, given out at the Colleges Ontario Higher Education Summit.
Cambrian has nominated two of its alumni this year: Jennifer Taback (Graphic Design, 2009) and Kendra Liinamaa (Industrial Mechanical Millwright, 2020).
"We are very proud to nominate Jennifer and Kendra this year because they have both demonstrated success in their fields and hold the values of what it means to be a Cambrian College alumnus," says Melanie Cacciotti, Executive Director, Alumni and Development. "These two strong, smart, and trailblazing women are outstanding examples of the graduates coming from Cambrian every year."
Jennifer Taback in an Indigenous woman and member of the Shawanaga First Nation, near Parry Sound. She is the co-founder of Design de Plume, a women-led, award-winning creative agency that launched in 2009.
Through her work, Taback has educated clients and the public on issues of significance to Indigenous peoples' health and well-being and supported national communication strategies to advance the process of Truth and Reconciliation. Additionally, Jennifer is the Vice-Chair on the College's Board of Governors and the Chair for Cambrian's Circle for Indigenous Education.
Kendra Liinamaa is an apprentice millwright with Vale in Sudbury. She has been identified as one of the "leading women in the Canadian mining sector" for the significant work she has done, and continues to do, to close the gender representation gap in a largely male-dominated industry. Kendra was also chosen to host Vale's first-ever Canadian Vale 360 Talk a company-wide education event profiling key corporate operations and activities.
"These two graduates are the epitome of strong female leaders in the 21st century," says Kristine Morrissey, President of Cambrian College. "Jennifer and Kendra are resilient and confident and are truly making a difference in the careers they have chosen. I continue to be amazed at the success of our graduates and how they are really changing the world around them."
The winners of this year's Premier's Awards will be announced at the Higher Education Summit, November 25-27 in Toronto.
