SASKATCHEWAN POLYTECHNIC
Study once, count it twice with free dual credit courses at Saskatchewan Polytechnic

November 8, 2023

For the winter 2024 semester, high school students in Saskatchewan can explore business post-secondary education at no cost, simultaneously earning both a high school credit and a Saskatchewan Polytechnic course credit.

"We are very excited to introduce high school students to some of our School of Business courses this upcoming winter," says Kirsten Downey, acting associate dean of the School of Business, "By removing a financial barrier, Sask Polytech is pleased to equip more students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to excel in both their academic pursuits and future endeavors."

Enrolment is open for the two free dual credit courses in the School of Business. High school students who successfully complete a dual credit course will earn a high school credit and receive credit for the course from Sask Polytech.

The new, free dual credit School of Business courses for the winter 2024 semester are:

  • BUS 104: Introduction to Business (Entrepreneurship 20)
  • MGMT 108: Introductions to Sport Management (Introduction to Sport Management 30)

The winter 2024 semester begins January 2024. Learn more about free dual credit courses at Sask Polytech at saskpolytech.ca/dualcredit or email Twyla at verhelsttw@saskpolytech.ca.

"Dual credit courses are a great avenue for students to feel better prepared for the next step in their education journey because they explore potential career paths before enrolling in a full-time program," says Downey. In addition to what they learn in the classroom, students develop time management skills as they learn to balance their high school workload with post-secondary level coursework. Through their participation in dual credit learning, students can also potentially reduce tuition costs and the time needed to complete a certificate or diploma.

Sask Polytech's dual credit courses have received approval from Saskatchewan's Ministry of Education. This program allows for greater flexibility in the delivery of secondary-level courses and provides more opportunities for students to explore and develop their interests, aptitudes, and skills. Sask Polytech has worked closely with ministry officials to ensure that its dual credit offerings align perfectly with secondary courses.
