This Friday, close to 350 Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) students will participate in the 9th Annual Challenge Nova Scotia competition - a pan-provincial event that calls on NSCC students to develop innovative solutions to a social challenge issued to them by Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston.
"I am delighted to participate in the 9th Annual NSCC Challenge Nova Scotia event," said Premier Tim Houston. "I admire students who are ready and willing to contribute to the future of Nova Scotia by addressing the most pressing challenges facing the province today."
At the beginning of the event, Premier Houston and NSCC President Don Bureaux address participants via a pre-recorded video and reveal this year's secret challenge question. Teams of three to five students will then develop their solutions and create 90-second explainer videos using online collaboration tools.
"Our province is facing challenges that are being felt not only locally, but also nationally and globally - impacting individuals and communities both socially and economically," says NSCC President Don Bureaux. "Challenge Nova Scotia tests the innovative spirit of our students through a question relevant to an issue impacting our province today."
In the days following the event, the ideas of the student teams will be reviewed by a panel of judges - representing the College's industry and community partners. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and their video solutions will be presented to Premier Houston.
