Mitch Dumas appointed as the next President and CEO at Northern College

The Northern College Board of Governors is pleased to announce it has unanimously endorsed the appointment of Mitch Dumas as President and CEO.

Dumas has been selected to lead the College into its next chapter of growth and innovation following an extensive search. Utilizing an executive search firm, KBRS, the Presidential Search Committee of the Board conducted a rigorous search to fill the key leadership role. The College's ninth President, Dumas succeeds Dr. Audrey J. Penner, after Penner's retirement announcement last year.

"We are very pleased to have found exceptional talent from within the organization to lead Northern College into its next successful chapter and solidify its position as a partner and driver of economic development in its communities," stated Jeff Molyneaux, Chair of the Northern College Board, of the selection.

"Mitch Dumas is an accomplished professional, who blends a solid academic foundation with extensive experience in financial management and organizational strategy. In these ever-changing times, his proven leadership abilities, coupled with a deep understanding of the college's values and goals, make him the ideal choice to guide Northern College into a bright and promising future," Molyneaux continued of the Board's appointment of Dumas.

A proud alumnus of Northern College, as well as Laurentian University, Dumas' educational background underscores his expertise in finance and management. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, a Masters of Business Administration, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, and a college diploma, along with extensive professional development.

Most recently serving as the Senior Vice President, Corporate Services, Dumas joined the College as Controller in 2019. Since then, he has demonstrated remarkable leadership and strategic acumen in overseeing various portfolios, including finance, human resources, plant & property, and the East End Family Health Team. He was pivotal in navigating the institution through the recent COVID-19 pandemic, showcasing his adaptability and resilience.

A bilingual leader fluent in English and French, Dumas is celebrated for his strategic thinking, outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively across diverse groups. His intentional and collaborative approach aligns perfectly with Northern College's mission of building community through partnerships and excellence in education.

Born in Mattawa, Ontario, and raised in Timmins, Ontario, Dumas has deep roots in Northern Ontario and has been an integral part of the region's growth for over two decades. His experience in the Mining Sector, for which Northern College is well known, uniquely positions him to understand and contribute to the institution's distinct needs. Dumas' leadership style is characterized by authenticity, honesty, and a dedication to problem-solving. As he assumes the role of President and CEO, his commitment to these values will undoubtedly guide the institution towards success.

Glenn MacDougall, the College's current Acting Senior Vice President of Corporate Services, will continue acting in that capacity until the role is filled permanently.

Mr. Dumas's first day in the job will be February 19^th, 2024. His office will be primarily located on the Timmins campus, with regular visits to all other sites.
