CONESTOGA COLLEGE
Conestoga ranked among Canada's top engineering technology schools

February 29, 2024

Conestoga was named among Canada's best engineering technology schools in 2024 by University Magazine, ranking number 6 out of 10 institutions that made the list.

The magazine cited several factors for Conestoga's exemplary placing in the country, stating the college offers a range of engineering technology programs, including mechanical, electrical and manufacturing engineering technology.

Conestoga is, in fact, the only college in Ontario offering fully accredited engineering degrees, allowing graduates to meet the education requirements to become professional engineers. "The school has strong industry partnerships and a focus on experiential learning," the post reads.

The magazine offered several school rankings for various programs to help students make informed decisions when picking a post-secondary institution. University Magazine is "created by a student for students to provide tips on student life, financial, career, majors, ranking and important news that will impact students."

Conestoga's programs have numerous advantages to offer prospective students considering pursuing engineering technology, said Tony Thoma, executive dean of the School of Engineering & Technology. Experiential learning is key. All programs incorporate active learning that may include project-based learning, co-operative education, applied research opportunities, case studies and capstone projects.

Active learning allows students to apply theory to practice during their studies and results in graduates who are better prepared for the real work world. Employers like this, which is why the School of Engineering & Technology has a history of excellent graduate and co-op placement rates.

Classes are relatively small, and students can attain accredited engineering degrees with lower tuition than at a university. There are also pathways to degree completion for students who begin in diploma programs.

"Conestoga faculty have industry experience and they bring their academic and work knowledge into the classroom," Thoma said. "Students also benefit from the strong industry partnerships."

Conestoga's School of Engineering & Technology offers a comprehensive suite of programs with a wide range of credentials in areas including architecture, civil, construction, mechanical and electronics. Conestoga is Ontario's only college to offer fully accredited engineering degrees.
