ST. LAWRENCE COLLEGE
SLC Celebrates Two Award Winners

May 2, 2024

St. Lawrence College (SLC) is thrilled to announce two award winners who have been recognized for their contributions and achievements, Jesenia Alvarez, a recent graduate from the Bachelor of Behavioural Psychology program, and Jeremy Mastin, SLC's Student Engagement & Experience Coordinator, and member of SLC's Board of Governors. Both have been awarded for their commitment to excellence and innovation in student life.

Jesenia Alvarez is the 2024 Bronze Recipient in Leadership Excellence Award for Students in the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICAN) Awards of Excellence program for her exceptional contributions to student life at SLC, and for leadership in inclusivity efforts in her community. As a varsity athlete and student, Jesenia has demonstrated outstanding commitment to her studies and her passion for fostering a culture of belonging and inclusivity. She created the first Facilitator's Guide for SLC's Positive Space training workshop, where she delivered sessions to over 100 employees and students. Jesenia's efforts extend beyond the campus as she actively engages with diverse communities, leveraging her experiences to promote understanding and acceptance.

SLC also celebrates Jeremy Mastin who is the recipient of the Canadian Association of College & University Student Services (CACUSS) Award for Innovation for his work on the Surge Rewards program for student engagement and recognition. Surge Rewards offers a unique platform for acknowledging and rewarding student involvement in academic and extracurricular activities. Through the program students earn points through activities like attending events, completing surveys, and cheering for Surge athletics teams. As students accumulate points, they progress through five levels of recognition, unlocking exclusive benefits and rewards along the way. With its user-friendly interface and diverse reward offerings, Surge Rewards encourages students to actively participate in campus life, fostering a sense of community and belonging at SLC.

"We are so proud of both Jesenia's and Jeremy's accomplishments and their dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment at St. Lawrence College, and for their broader communities" said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. "Their leadership, advocacy, and dedication to enhancing the student experience serve as inspirations to us all, and we congratulate them both on these well-deserved honors."
