GEORGIAN COLLEGE
New Georgian College micro-credential empowers educators to use artificial intelligence

August 20, 2024

A new, innovative micro-credential at Georgian College starting this fall aims to demystify the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the classroom and empower educators to use AI tools with confidence.

It's one of Georgian's many Continuing Education courses and programs with offerings throughout fall 2024 and winter 2025, now open for registration.

Rob Smith, Manager of Continuing Education and Corporate Training at Georgian College, said the new micro-credential Artificial Intelligence for Educators mixes self-paced learning with friendly, engaging live discussions.

Artificial Intelligence for Educators is a six-week, fully online micro-credential. It includes a mix of learning that students can complete at their own pace and live sessions with an instructor and other learners to engage in a rich dialogue about various topics, opinions and challenges.

The introductory micro-credential is geared to educators at all levels of experience and comfort with AI. It aims to help educators get a firm grasp on AI fundamentals and elevate their teaching skills through the practical exploration of AI tools, applications and their integration into the educational landscape.

"As a leader in immersive learning, Georgian is at the forefront of new technologies and trends, and so we're thrilled to create a new micro-credential for educators at all levels to explore how they can use AI to upgrade their teaching skills," said Rob Smith, Manager of Continuing Education and Corporate Training at Georgian. "By combining self-paced learning with the personal touch of interactive, online live sessions, we've created a unique experience for educators to learn about a big tech topic in a friendly, engaging space."

Artificial Intelligence for Educators runs Oct. 21 to Dec. 6. Registration for this micro-credential, along with many other Continuing Education courses, is now open at GeorgianCollege.ca/coned.

The course offers something for all educators - whether they're brand new to AI, skeptical of it, or have been using it for a while.

The micro-credential is broken into six mini modules and takes 18 hours to complete. Of that time, 12 hours is asynchronous learning and there are six one-hour live session discussions, which run after each week of asynchronous learning.

Topics covered throughout the micro-credential include AI fundamentals, tools for teachers and students, adaptive AI learning tools, ethical considerations and more.

Register now for Artificial Intelligence for Educators micro-credential at Georgian.
