SASKATCHEWAN POLYTECHNIC
Saskatchewan Polytechnic implements academic division restructure to boost innovation and collaboration

September 12, 2024

Saskatchewan Polytechnic has strategically restructured its academic division to build upon its reputation for academic excellence and industry responsiveness and to enhance the student experience.

Shaped by input and feedback from faculty and staff, the restructure aims to promote innovation, collaboration and connection among faculty, and with industry and community partners. It has been 10 years since the introduction of the previous structure, and this update propels Sask Polytech boldly into the next decade.

"I am often asked, What is a polytechnic?'" says Dr. Larry Rosia, Sask Polytech president and CEO. "Polytechnics offer advanced, technical post-secondary education with a focus on one-to-two-year credentials. They are hands-on and industry-responsive. Curriculum focuses on practical skills, applied learning and real-world experience. Sask Polytech's purposefully designed restructure will encourage additional interdisciplinary collaboration with our faculty in providing both applied learning and applied research opportunities."

To ensure relevance, responsiveness and a future-focused approach, the academic division has been organized into four faculties: Faculty of Business and Management; Faculty of Digital Innovation, Arts and Sciences; Faculty of Nursing, Health Sciences and Community Services; and the Faculty of Technology and Skilled Trades. This new structure provides synergies and support to drive further innovation in curriculum and applied research, while refreshing and modernizing terminology.

"On behalf of our leadership team, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our faculty and staff for their valuable input into the academic division restructure," says Dr. Has Malik, Sask Polytech provost and vice-president, Academic. "This new structure exemplifies Sask Polytech's ongoing dedication to our vision of leading the rise of polytechnic education and our mission of inspiring success in every learning journey."

The restructure reflects Sask Polytech's commitment to staying at the forefront of educational advancements and industry relevance. This initiative also aligns seamlessly with the planning of the new Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus and Sask Polytech's ongoing strategic plan refresh.
