The St. Clair College men's golf team had a huge day on Wednesday in the final round of the OCAA Championship being hosted by Georgian College at the Barrie Country Club. The Saints made a big comeback from third place after round two to win their first ever OCAA Men's Team Gold Medal in school history.

The men had a three day total of 920 (56 over par) on a very challenging and tough golf course. The Saints were sitting in third place after round two 7 strokes back of Humber and 6 strokes behind Fanshawe but came out on fire on Wednesday to steal the gold medal and pass both teams.

Spencer Higginbottom (Lakeshore; Tecumseh Vista) was the top Saint over three days shooting 11 over 227 finishing in solo 3rd place in a field of 50 golfers to win the individual bronze medal. Steven Hill (Lakeshore; St. Anne's) had a huge day for St. Clair shooting a 2 under 70. Cale Marontate (Harrow; Kingsville) had his best round of the tournament shooting an even par 72. Simon Moir (London; St. Thomas Aquinas) and Owen Laverty (Whitby; Brooklin High) were the other two team members.

The St. Clair women also brought home some hardware winning the OCAA team silver medal. Alyssa Cowling (Oldcastle; Villanova) finished in 5th place while Justine Gorham (Amherstburg; L'Essor) finished in 6th place.

Higginbottom, Hill, and Cowling also qualified for the 2025 Golf Ontario Amateur Championships with their placing. Higginbottom and Hill were named to the OCAA Men's All Star Team.

The Saints are coached by head coach Kevin Corriveau and assistant coaches David Byrne and Chris Meloche.

The St. Clair men's team along with Cowling and Gorham have qualified to compete at the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships presented by PING. The event takes place at the RedCrest Golf Club in King City, ON from October 15-18.

The OCAA tournament consisted of three 18-hole rounds. Men's teams consist of four or five golfers, with the top four individual scores of each round contributing to the total team score. Women's teams consist of two or three golfers, with the top two individual scores of each round contributing to their total score.
