On Sunday, Dec. 1, Champlain Saint-Lambert's Constituent College Director Don Shewan was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of his outstanding achievement and contributions to the community.
To mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, 30, 000 Coronation Medals were awarded to individuals from across Canada.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a way to recognize outstanding individuals of all ages and from all walks of life who have made a difference in their communities, provinces, territories or who have attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.
Last year, Don Shewan celebrated his 50th work anniversary at Champlain Saint-Lambert, dedicating his five-decade career to the success of this higher education institution.
Shewan was nominated by Saint-Lambert mayor Pascale Mongrain. At a ceremony at the St-Hubert air base on Sunday, Shewan was presented the award alongside other winners Jean-Pierre Ranger, Philippe Angers and Robert Taylor.
Taylor also has a Champlain connection as he previously served as a member of the Champlain Foundation board.
"I want to thank Mayor Mongrain and the Lieutenant Governor's office for this honour," said Shewan. "This award is a tribute not just to me and my career, but to the incredible work of the management team at Champlain Saint-Lambert with whom I share this award. It is the dedication of my colleagues that make our success here possible."
"I also want to thank my predecessor George Wallace who gave me my first opportunity at Champlain and served as an invaluable mentor. If I'm succeeding, I'm doing so standing on his shoulders."
Congratulations to Don Shewan on this exceptional honour.
