Today's graphic designers rely on a blend of creative thinking and technological acumen to bring their ideas to life. Loyalist College is proud to relaunch its Graphic Design program with a refreshed, fast-track format to bridge these essential skills and help graduates excel in a dynamic and evolving field. Welcoming students in Fall 2025, this Ontario College Advanced Diploma program offers six semesters of training in two years, providing students with an accelerated pathway to explore design technologies, develop their creative vision, and re-enter the workforce or launch careers in the creative industries sooner.
"In a digitally driven world, graphic design plays an increasingly essential role in how we express ideas, share information and communicate effectively," says Dr. Amanda Baskwill, Senior Vice President, Academic and Chief Learning Officer at Loyalist College. "With applications in fields such as business, marketing, tech and entertainment, graphic design opens doors to a wide range of career opportunities. Graduates of this program will gain technical expertise and transferable skills that are in high demand across industries."
Students will learn through hands-on experience in advanced design software, digital marketing, user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, motion graphics, animation, and cross-platform branding strategies. Working in labs equipped with industry-standard tools, learners will apply these skills to collaborative projects that push their creativity and technical abilities. By the end of the program, students will have developed a professional portfolio showcasing their unique style and readiness for the workforce. Students will also work with real-world clients in a simulation lab on campus, gaining practical experience and building industry connections.
The program's interdisciplinary approach includes shared courses with other programs in the creative industries, providing students with a broader perspective and transferable skills. Beyond design training, students will build expertise in entrepreneurship, client relations and project management, which are key skills for leading projects, meeting deadlines and cultivating professional networks.
"With the return of our Graphic Design program in an accelerated format, students can immerse themselves in an intensive, hands-on learning experience," says Mark Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of Loyalist College. "It's a reflection of Loyalist's commitment to deliver career-focused education, empowering graduates to confidently step into a variety of creative roles with fresh perspectives, strong technical skills and a broad foundation of knowledge."
