Spartan Controls Partners with NWP to Empower the Next Generation of Engineers and Invest in Local Education

February 11, 2025

Spartan Controls, a leader in industrial automation solutions, is proud to announce a 15-year partnership with Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) as the exclusive naming partner for the institution's new $16 million, full-service training and education space. The facility, set to open in fall 2025, will be named the Spartan Controls Northwestern Centre for Industrial Automation & Innovation.

The new facility will feature advanced technology and provide hands-on training with customized process equipment integration, including boilers, steam turbines, water treatment packages, and more. This immersive learning environment will support the Instrumentation and Control Technician Apprenticeship Program and 3rd Class Power Engineering, equipping students with the skills and experience necessary to excel in Alberta's key industries.

"We are excited to be a part of this forward-thinking initiative," said Doug Ndegwa, President & CEO of Spartan Controls. "By providing students with state-of-the-art training and access to industry-replicated environments, this partnership will help equip them with the skills and experience needed to excel in Alberta's critical industries."

This partnership builds on Spartan's ongoing collaboration with NWP, which began in 2022 with a focus on place-based training and industry collaboration. Since then, Spartan has welcomed NWP apprenticeship students to its own facilities to gain experience with the latest tools and technologies.

"Spartan Controls has been a strong partner to Northwestern Polytechnic, contributing not only their resources but their extensive industry expertise to help ensure our programs remain relevant and cutting-edge," said Vanessa Sheane, President and CEO of Northwestern Polytechnic. "Their support will directly enhance the learning environment and ensure our students receive the best possible preparation for the workforce."

This collaboration represents Spartan's long-term commitment to the growth of the local workforce and the advancement of education in Alberta. The company is excited to see the lab take shape, knowing it will help develop highly skilled professionals ready to meet the challenges of the future.
