ON MARCH 15
Pow Wow returns to Conestoga for 15th annual celebration of Indigenous culture

February 24, 2025

The 15th annual traditional Pow Wow will be hosted by Be-Dah-Bin Gamik, Conestoga's Indigenous Services, on March 15 at the Kitchener - Doon campus.

The community is invited to join the celebration of Indigenous culture that includes drumming, singing and dancing, guest speakers, vendors and a sacred fire.

"Every year, Conestoga opens its doors and invites all nations and relations to come celebrate at our annual traditional Pow Wow," said Christina Restoule, manager of Indigenous Student Services. "This event honours Indigenous ways of knowing and being. It gives students, staff and community the opportunity to experience the beauty and resilience of Indigenous languages and cultural practices."

Conestoga is home to one of the largest Pow Wows held in Waterloo Region. The annual event "provides the Indigenous community with a safe space to gather and empowers Indigenous youth to proudly celebrate who they are as First Peoples of Turtle Island," Restoule said.

The Pow Wow will include master of ceremonies Adrian Harjo, special guest Adriel Harjo, a youth singer/language speaker from Six Nations of the Grand River, head dancers AJ Douglas and Adrian Klein, and drumming groups Little Creek Singers, Old Style Singers, Red Tail Singers, All Nations Juniors, Chippewa Travellers, Old Soul Singers and Snide Creek Singers.

Doors to the family friendly event will open at 10 a.m., followed by the grand entry at noon and the closing ceremony at 5 p.m.

General admission is $5. Entry is free for students with identification and children under five.

Donations of non-perishable food and toiletries will be accepted.

Free parking is available onsite at the Student Recreation Centre.
