RENEWED PARTNERSHIP
NSCC and CBU Strengthen Pathways for Student Success with Renewed Articulation Agreements

February 27, 2025

Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) and Cape Breton University (CBU) are strengthening their long-standing relationship with the renewal of nine articulation agreements and the signing of one new agreement. This renewed partnership reaffirms both institutions' dedication to expanding student opportunities, increasing access to post-secondary education, and creating seamless pathways to career success.

David Dingwall, President of CBU and and Don Bureaux, President of NSCC sign articulation agreements.

These articulation agreements provide students with the opportunity to transition from diploma programs at NSCC to degree programs at CBU, enhancing access to post-secondary education and offering a more streamlined academic experience for those who choose to continue their educational journey.

"Through this partnership, we are reaffirming our shared dedication to student success," said David Dingwall, President & Vice Chancellor of Cape Breton University. "By strengthening these pathways and fostering this very important relationship, we are able to provide students with the options and opportunities they will need to succeed in the modern workforce."

During the event, President Dingwall announced enhanced financial support for students transferring to CBU through articulation agreements. This includes the creation of two new Dean's Transfer Scholarships, valued at up to $5,000 each, and five new entrance awards, each worth $1,000. These financial initiatives further demonstrate CBU's commitment to making post-secondary education more accessible and affordable for transfer students.

"We're pleased to renew and add to our agreements with such a great partner institution," said Don Bureaux, President, Nova Scotia Community College. "With such a growing, dynamic economy, there's never been a more important time to ensure we all work together to encourage beneficial education pathways that allow for greater mobility, opportunity, and flexibility."

Agreements Signed on February 19th:

  • Renewed Agreements: Disability Supports and Services, Early Childhood Education, Mi'kmaw Early Childhood Education, Therapeutic Recreation, Child and Youth Care, Criminal Justice, Social Services, Mental Health Recovery and Promotion, and Technology and Technician Programs.
  • New Agreement: Occupational Health and Safety (Bachelor of Health Science - Public Health).

In addition to today's (February 19) signings, there are several additional existing articulation agreements between NSCC and CBU.

In the past two years, CBU has welcomed over 190 transfer students, with more than 140 coming directly from NSCC. CBU also maintains strong transfer partnerships with institutions across Atlantic Canada, including New Brunswick Community College, College of the North Atlantic, and Holland College. At NSCC, more than 80 NSCC programs include courses that count towards a university degree.

The signing ceremony took place at the NSCC Sydney Waterfront Campus, bringing together students and employees from both institutions, along with community partners, to be a part of the announcement.
