CHAMPLAIN COLLEGE SAINT-LAMBERT
Cavaliers Women's Basketball Coach Named CCAA Coach of the Year

March 13, 2025

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce that Georges Germanos, head coach of the Champlain College Saint-Lambert Cavaliers, has been named the 2024-25 CCAA Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

With 28 years of coaching experience, including 22 seasons leading the Cavaliers, Germanos has built one of the most respected women's basketball programs in the country.

Last month, Germanos was named Coach of the Year at the provincial RSEQ level for the third time.

"Georges is a coach who continually demonstrates professionalism, deep care for his athletes, and a passion for growing the sport at all levels," said Mai Nguyen, CCAA National Women's Basketball Convenor. "His impact on and off the court is a testament to his dedication to excellence."

This season, Germanos guided the Cavaliers to a dominant 13-1 regular-season record in the RSEQ conference, improving upon the previous year's 11-7 mark. His team embraced a fast-paced, up-tempo style of play, demonstrating improved offensive efficiency and a disciplined defensive approach.

Germanos has been instrumental in player development, transforming returning athletes many of whom were multi-sport competitors or overlooked at the secondary school level into elite collegiate players through structured skill-development sessions and a strong emphasis on increasing shooting volume.

His impact extends beyond the court. Germanos is deeply invested in the academic and personal success of his athletes, ensuring they meet eligibility requirements while assisting in university recruitment and scholarship opportunities. He works closely with academic advisors and mentors student-athletes to help them balance their academic and athletic commitments.

In addition to his coaching duties, Germanos is a key figure in grassroots basketball development, leading weekly basketball clinics and academies through the Community Outreach Program, fostering the next generation of players, and serving as the Director and Co-Founder of SLAM CAMP, a non-profit initiative that promotes education through basketball with summer travel teams, coaching clinics, and grassroots leagues.
