COLLÈGE BORÉAL
A winning partnership between CSC Nouvelon and Collège Boréal for young Francophone hockey players

March 17, 2025

Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and Collège Boréal have signed an agreement to enrich the four Hockey Canada Skills Academy programs offered in CSC Nouvelon schools. A two-day celebration reunited representatives from both partners along with over 100 grade 6 to 12 students registered in the hockey programs at Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), École secondaire catholique l'Horizon (Val Caron), École élémentaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa), École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury), École St-Augustin (Garson) and École St-Denis (Sudbury).

The partnership was designed to foster collaboration in the areas of health promotion, fitness and sports by creating more learning opportunities for girls and boys registered in one of CSC Nouvelon's hockey programs.

As part of this agreement, students spent the day of February 26, 2025 exploring Collège Boréal's campus in Sudbury. To enhance their learning experience and personal development, students took part in interactive workshops linked to various programs offered by Boréal such as Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant, Massage Therapy and Fitness and Health Promotion. With the support of Boréal's varsity team and experts, students learned proper strength training and stretching techniques, best practices to prevent sports-related injuries, and tested their skills during a game of indoor hockey.

On February 27, 2025, students gathered at McClelland Arena in Copper Cliff to play in a 3-on-3 hockey tournament. This event showcased the enthusiasm, sense of belonging and athletic abilities of CSC Nouvelon hockey players along with both partners' commitment towards youth and health promotion.

Quotes

Our collaboration with Collège Boréal adds an undeniable value to our hockey programs. In addition to learning from authentic experiences on and off the ice, our students have had the chance to explore relevant programs offered by Boréal. We are proud to have reunited our young Francophone hockey players from Garson, Sudbury, Val Caron and Wawa for the very first time thanks to this winning partnership.
Tom Michaud, Director of Education and Secretary-Treasurer at CSC Nouvelon

Collège Boréal is proud to bring its proven expertise in health programs, especially in sports, to the students of the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon. This new agreement not only promotes physical activity that supports the well-being of our youth but also sustains the tradition of our national winter sport, all while reinforcing the French-language educational continuum.
Daniel Giroux, President of Collège Boréal
