Humber Polytechnic students shine at Skills Ontario

It was a solid performance by Humber Polytechnic students at the Skills Ontario 2025 competition after they won more than a dozen medals.

Skills Ontario held its 2025 competition May 5 to May 7 at the Toronto Congress Centre. The annual competition gives elementary, secondary and post-secondary students an opportunity to show off the skills they've learned as they compete against their peers from across the province in complex challenges designed to showcase their expertise in various sectors. 

Post-secondary students take part in contests including Baking, Cabinetmaking, Horticulture and Landscape, Welding and many others.  

Humber students won six gold, six silver and three bronze medals at the competition. The winners are:

  • Christian Gibski, Heating Systems Technician - Gold
  • Monica Lam, Landscape Design - Gold
  • Lyra Placides and Rushawn Waite, Renewable Energies - Team of 2 - Gold
  • Hanson Wang, Electonics - Gold
  • Haruka Kawakami, Aesthetics - Gold
  • Grant Maddock and Cole Hunter, Mechatronics - Team of 2 - Gold
  •   Mike Woodhead, Arborist - Silver
  • Brixter Galapon, Baking - Silver
  • Jacob Jech, Electronics - Silver
  • Taylor Chamberlain, Landscape Design - Silver
  • Carter Gallie, Photography - Silver
  • Taiwo Womiloju, Cybersecurity - Silver
  • Jesse Gaonach, Coding - Bronze
  • Derek Visser, Arborist - Bronze
  • Vatsal Dave, Web Design and Development - Bronze  

Some of the winners will now move on to the Skills Canada national competition happening at the end of the month in Saskatchewan.
