The Mohawk College Mountaineers have been selected to host the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Cross Country Championships.
Mohawk last hosted the provincial championships in 2008, in partnership with Redeemer University. Most recently, the college's Department of Athletics and Recreation has gained significant experience hosting high-profile events, including the 2023 CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship and the 2025 OCAA Curling Championships.
"This is a great opportunity for Mohawk to host the cross country provincial championships, especially following our recent success in the sport," said Matthew Ferreira, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "We are excited to welcome all the student-athletes to Hamilton, showcase a stunning conservation area, and deliver a first-class event."
The 2025 OCAA Cross Country Championships will take place on October 25, at Marydale Park in Mount Hope, Ontario. The course will wind through the scenic trails of the Binbrook Conservation Area.
The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at 12 p.m.
Under the leadership of head coach David Hopton since 2021, the Mountaineers cross country program has established itself as a consistent contender on the provincial and national stage. The team captured the 2023 OCAA men's title and the 2024 OCAA women's title, along with four additional OCAA medals and a CCAA national bronze over the past four seasons.
"I am very excited that Mohawk will be hosting the 2025 OCAA Cross Country Championships," said head coach David Hopton. "Hamilton has some of the best running trails in the country, so it's exciting to get to show that to the rest of the OCAA. We have brought home two OCAA banners the last two years, and momentum in the program is building, so it seems like the perfect time to host."
With a strong tradition of excellence and growing momentum in cross country, Mohawk is poised to deliver an unforgettable championship experience - highlighting both the athletic talent across Ontario and the natural beauty of the Hamilton region.
