After months of consultation, collaboration, and refining, Cambrian College has released its new 2025-2030 strategic plan.
The plan, Empowering People: Shaping Futures, is centred on three main goals: deliver education that fosters creativity, resilience, and personal growth for career success; create a warm, inclusive atmosphere that strengthens Cambrian's culture; and forge strategic regional and global partnerships that fuel recruitment, unlock learner success, and accelerate innovation and productivity.
Cambrian College President Kristine Morrissey unveiled the college's 2025-30 Strategic Plan at the annual President's Breakfast at the Barry Downe campus in Greater Sudbury.
Within each main goal is an objective specifically for learners, the Cambrian team, and the community.
"Our new strategic plan was a tremendous amount of work and will guide us as a leader in post-secondary education over the next five years," says Cambrian College President, Kristine Morrissey. "It's a forward-looking plan that will ensure we stay true to our mission of offering comprehensive programs that lead to meaningful employment, and further our vision to empower our learners, team, and partners for success."
The development of Cambrian's 2025-30 strategic plan was guided by five major principles: academic excellence, global perspective, Indigenous values, innovation, and sustainability.
Numerous consultation sessions were held with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to help develop the plan's mission, vision, goals and perspectives.
One of the faculty members who was part of the Strategic Plan core engagement group was Jonathan Duquette, a professor in the department of Interdisciplinary Studies.
"I was lucky enough to be a part of the previous Strategic Plan's development in 2019, when I sat on the Board of Governors as a student representative, and this time around I am a faculty member, which has given me a renewed sense of purpose and a clear path that has an almost holistic approach to it. Listening to all stakeholders, this new vision offers a path forward for everyone during a transitional period within the post-secondary landscape. Using a combined lens of Learner, Team, and Community focus, I feel like this new strategic plan conveys a modern and realistic view for all of us."
One of the students contributing to the 2025-30 Strategic Plan was Nicholas Arkuh, who is also a student representative on the Board of Governors.
"In a time of constant change, this plan equips students with creativity, resilience, and real-world experience. It challenges us to dream bigger, reach farther, and take our learning beyond the classroom."
"Partnering with Cambrian College is more than a collaboration, it's a commitment to empowering individuals, building stronger communities, and shaping a brighter future together," adds Gus Minor, Chief Operating Officer of Sofvie, a software company specializing in equipment maintenance and safety for the mining sector. "At Sofvie, we believe that by joining forces, we unlock new opportunities for innovation, growth, and lasting impact."
"Developing our new strategic plan involved an amazing effort from a lot of dedicated people, both within Cambrian and in the community," adds Morrissey. "I want to thank everyone who contributed. We are launching this plan at a time of complexity and challenge. We welcome this moment of opportunity, creativity, collaboration, and meaningful change. We have defined a clear path forward and remain focused on what matters most: delivering an education that prepares learners to thrive."
