Marco Salas was thrilled to learn he would be attending Humber Polytechnic this fall for the Business Management - Financial Services program.
Salas chose Humber for a variety of reasons, including its strong reputation for applied research excellence and its ability to set up graduates for career success along with work-integrated learning opportunities.
"It makes Humber an ideal place where I can gain both practical experience and the professional skills needed to succeed in the competitive job market," said Salas. "I'm excited to learn from experienced instructors, gain hands-on experience and build connections that will support my future career."
Making his introduction to Humber even sweeter was the fact that Salas was named the winner of the 2025 Tuition Contest and received $5,000 to put towards his tuition.
"Winning the $5,000 was surprising," said Salas. "I was shocked when the organizers announced my name because a lot of students participated in this contest and there was a small probability of winning due to all the students signing up. Winning made my day truly unforgettable."
"It made me feel that Humber is exactly where I'm meant to be. It feels like destiny," he continued.
The annual contest is open to domestic students enrolling at Humber for the first time who have been accepted to a program and confirmed their offer of admission.
Salas said the contest winnings have eased his financial burden and that means he doesn't have to be as concerned about money while here at Humber.
"Receiving this support is helpful and makes it easier to focus on my studies and pursue my goals without worrying as much about finances," said Salas.
After he graduates and gains some work experience, Salas wants to start his career as a chartered financial planner.
Salas is having fun meeting his new classmates and professors as he experiences campus life and gets involved in clubs and extracurriculars. With a strong family supporting him, Salas is ready to excel in his post-secondary education.
"I'm motivated to study hard primarily because of my family's support. My family supports me in every way, which inspires me to keep pushing forward. To my family and friends, I am forever grateful for the continuing support no matter what happens and the unconditional love you give."
