Vancouver Community College (VCC) has launched a new Digital Learning for Innovative Teaching micro-credential to address the growing need for digital literacy among educators, trainers, and learning designers.
Developed in partnership with the B.C. Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, the program offers practical training in how to design and deliver engaging lessons using today's most relevant tools and technologies, including generative AI.
"In today's climate of rapid technological change, digital learning and literacy skills are now essential for teaching," said Dr. Tannis Morgan, Associate Vice President, Academic Innovation, VCC. "We are proud to launch this new VCC program, which empowers educators to evolve their skill set and prepare learners for a digital-first world."
Designed for educators working in post-secondary and industry settings, the fully online, part-time program supports flexible, self-paced study so participants can build the mindset, skillset, and toolset needed to teach in future digital learning environments. Participants will develop skills in digital content creation and curation, including best practices for using generative AI in education. Importantly, it also teaches educators how to create inclusive, accessible digital course materials, ensuring their students are not left behind as technology reshapes teaching and learning.
The program launched this month and courses now start monthly. It is open to learners from across Canada and around the world, who can earn a micro-credential for completing either a single course or the full short certificate. Each course is structured to be completed in six weeks, with the certificate requiring approximately 150 hours to complete. Eligible B.C.-based applicants may apply for a StrongerBC Future Skills Grant to help fund the program.
Credits earned in the program are transferable to VCC's Provincial Instructor Diploma program and other Canadian post-secondary institutions.
