CAMOSUN COLLEGE
Students team up with ShelterBox Canada to raise disaster relief awareness

November 7, 2025

Students in the School of Business at Camosun College are gaining invaluable hands-on learning, while supporting a real-world humanitarian cause.

Over the last 18 months, ShelterBox Canada has partnered with Camosun as the client for a Project Management course. ShelterBox is a national charity whose mission is to provide shelter to some of the world's most vulnerable people following disasters. The collaboration - driven by business students who combine innovation with civic engagement - has supported ShelterBox through creative campaign concepts and volunteer outreach initiatives.

"Camosun College's creative approach and the enthusiasm of their students have made a real difference in our local outreach," says Ally Buck, Rotary and Community Fundraising Coordinator. "Their campaigns have helped us reach new audiences and inspire donations that fund life-saving aid."

Through a series of student-led campaigns, students have raised more than $4,000 to date, directly supporting families who have lost their homes due to disaster and conflict. The students' efforts highlight Camosun's commitment to applied learning, and demonstrate the power of education to drive tangible social impact.

"Students have gained invaluable, hands-on experience working with ShelterBox," explains Brian Feltham, Marketing Instructor at Camosun "By designing and running awareness campaigns, students are learning how business skills translate into measurable social impact and how those skills can help bring vital support to families in crisis."

"Learning has never felt so good," says Nancy Amado, post-degree diploma Business student. "This term, our class is organizing several events as part of our course project. It allows us to apply classroom learning to a real-world humanitarian cause."
