Hands-on, experiential learning is a hallmark of many programs at St. Clair College.
But another huge advantage for students was on display at a recent event hosted by the Early Childhood Education program at the College's Chatham Campus, where they received great networking opportunities with a local employer.
Chatham Kent Heartwork came to St. Clair College's ECE Outdoor Lab for the 'ECE Social,' where first and second-year students were able to introduce themselves and network with future employers.
About 10 supervisors set up tables at the event and showcased their childcare centres.
"The students had an opportunity to learn about Chatham Kent Heartwork, the services they provide, and the ongoing professional development opportunities that Heartwork provides," said Crys Longo, a professor and program coordinator in the Early Childhood Education program in Chatham.
Students also had the chance to engage with the international student honour roll, a leadership award winner, and a graduate Early Childhood Education student who shared her ECE student and work experience and answered questions.
At the ECE social event, the students were able to talk to each of their future employers, win prizes, play games, get to know their faculty more, mingle between program years and access ECE materials for curriculum when they become Registered Early Childhood Educators.
"It was an excellent student community building experience and a fun way to broadcast the Early Childhood Education program at St. Clair College," said Longo.
