College of the North Atlantic (CNA) has welcomed 5,870 students for Fall 2025. While total enrolment is down 6.1 per cent from last fall, primarily due to national immigration changes, domestic numbers remain steady and interest from other provinces has grown by 24 per cent.
"We are entering a year of change, but also one of momentum and opportunity," said Elizabeth Winney, President & CEO of CNA. "Although international enrolment has declined throughout Atlantic Canada and across the country, CNA remains on solid ground. Our steady domestic enrolment and rising interest from other provinces confirm that students recognize the quality, value, and results of a CNA education."
International numbers are down 38.1 per cent this fall, but with 576 students enrolling from 38 countries, CNA's global community remains its third largest ever.
"International students are living and learning alongside domestic and out-of-province students at campuses in every region of Newfoundland and Labrador, bringing fresh perspectives and energy," said Elizabeth Vincent, Associate Vice-President, International at CNA, noting the college had seen all-time high international enrolment the previous two years. "We are now reviewing the federal Budget 2025 and its proposed immigration changes to understand potential impacts and ensure CNA remains proactive, adaptable, and ready to support every student's success. We will continue to welcome students who are eligible and eager to build their futures here."
Fergus O'Brien, Vice-President, Academic & Applied Research at CNA, noted these fall numbers are just the beginning, with spring and other upcoming intakes adding to the total for the 2025-26 academic year.
"Our regional delivery model and strong ties to industry continue to attract students seeking real-world experience and direct pathways into employment," O'Brien said, adding CNA's diverse offerings include more than 100 full-time certificates, diplomas, post-diplomas, and applied degrees, ensuring students gain practical experience while pursuing the field they love. "Whether studying trades, business, technology, health sciences, sustainable development, tourism or applied arts, our graduates are ready to work."
