CAMOSUN COLLEGE
Camosun College takes body science to the next level

November 13, 2025

Exercise enthusiasts, athletic teams, research groups, and community members now have access to cutting-edge body composition technology at Camosun College. The Kinesiology Department is proud to announce the addition of a GE Lunar Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scanner to the Athletic and Exercise Therapy (AET) Clinic, located in the Pacific Institute for Sport Education (PISE) building at the Interurban campus.

The DEXA scanner is a clinical-grade tool that provides highly detailed insights into body composition, including body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, and bone mineral content. Widely regarded as the gold standard in body composition analysis, DEXA technology is used by exercise scientists, health professionals, and researchers to better understand the physical makeup of individuals from elite athletes to everyday fitness enthusiasts.

"A full-body DEXA scan offers valuable data that can guide personal health and fitness goals, inform training programs, and support research into bone health and body composition," says Tanner McGaw, Acting Clinic Services Manager, AET Clinic. "We're thrilled to integrate this advanced technology into our curriculum and clinic services."

The DEXA scanner is now being used in Camosun's Kinesiology courses, giving students hands-on experience with industry-leading equipment. Beyond the classroom, the AET Clinic is expanding its services to include personal wellness assessments, team evaluations, and collaborative research opportunities.

This initiative reflects Camosun College's commitment to innovation, experiential learning, and community engagement.
