Students come to college for many things, but a chief reason is obviously to get a good job after graduation.
But today's students - like Sejal Gupta - are also looking for part-time work while in school to help pay for their education.
"I'm just looking around for job opportunities and dropping off my resumes," said Gupta, who recognized St. Clair College's Genesis Experiential Learning and Career Centre is here to help.
The annual part-time job fair helps foster connections between students and employers by bringing dozens of companies currently hiring to the Student Life Centre to assist students with finding work while they're in school.
"We're lucky to have great community partners who come out to meet with our students and offer opportunities," said Cody Brown, a Career Services Officer at the Genesis Centre. "It's a win-win, really. Students find flexible jobs that fit around their studies, and local businesses can fill some of the employment gaps they're facing."
Gupta was happy with the one-stop shop aspect of the part-time job fair.
"Considering that the job market is already so saturated and it's so hard to go around and find jobs that match your skills and your qualifications, I think it's a great initiative for the College to bring out people to us that resonate with our skill level and our ambitions," said Gupta.
"There's different kinds of job opportunities, from service sectors to healthcare and everything in between, so it's pretty versatile," Gupta said. "I think everyone should at least come and check it out and like gain as much information as possible, because you never know what will help you develop your resume and skills."
Brown said he spoke with a student who was excited they went through the event because they found a potential book-keeping opportunity.
"That's exactly what these events are all about: helping students make those connections that can lead to real work experience and a bit of financial relief while they're in school," Brown said.
