A legacy of giving: NAIT celebrates $2 million gift from Arnold and Grace Rumbold

December 3, 2025

For nearly two decades, Arnold Rumbold and his late wife Grace have generously helped shape the future of skilled trades in Alberta by supporting NAIT. Today (Nov 27), the polytechnic celebrates the next chapter in that legacy: a remarkable $2.04 million donation from Arnold Rumbold.

The generous gift will fund three initiatives at NAIT:

  • $1.04 million to establish the Arnold and Grace Rumbold Leadership Award, a new award that will empower students to lead and make a difference.
    • Recipients of the award will receive $10,000, making this the largest student award offered at NAIT.
  • $500,000 for supplies, equipment and more for the Advanced Skills Centre, marking the first official donor contribution to the facility.
  • $500,000 to support skilled trades youth engagement and mental health initiatives.

"It's critically important to invest in the future of skilled trades," says Arnold Rumbold, philanthropist, retired master electrician and business owner. "Young people need opportunities to receive hands-on training and practical skills that pave the way to successful careers, and NAIT makes that possible."

"We are deeply grateful for Arnold and Grace Rumbold's enduring generosity" says Robyn Khunkun, Associate Vice President, Advancement and Alumni Relations. "Their commitment to polytechnic education has already helped countless students succeed, and this extraordinary gift will empower future leaders and strengthen the skilled trades for generations to come."
