St. Lawrence College is proud to announce the launch of its new Electrical Techniques program, a one-year Ontario College Certificate program beginning in September 2026 at its Kingston campus. This innovative program is designed to prepare graduates for careers in construction and electrical trades.
The Electrical Techniques program provides students with foundational knowledge of electrical functions within controlled electrical environments, equipping them with essential vocational skills to work under the supervision of qualified professionals.
"This program responds directly to the growing need for qualified electrical professionals across Ontario and Canada," said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. "Our graduates will enter the workforce with hands-on training, making them highly attractive candidates for employers seeking skilled electrical workers."
Program Highlights
The comprehensive curriculum covers critical areas including electrical fundamentals, installation methods, renewable energy systems, instrumentation, electronics, and workplace safety. Students will also gain exposure to emerging technologies such as wind turbine systems and low-voltage systems, preparing them for the evolving energy landscape.
Graduates of the Electrical Techniques program have multiple pathways available to them, including apprenticeships or continuing their education through direct pathways to the second year of related two-year diploma programs at SLC, including Electrical Engineering Technician, Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technician, Energy Systems Engineering Technician, or Wind Turbine Technician programs.
