Georgian College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA), becoming an affiliate member of the association. This partnership will help address Canada's growing need for skilled talent in the nuclear sector and connect students, graduates, and apprentices to high-quality careers in clean energy and nuclear medicine.
"Georgian is proud to join the Canadian Nuclear Association and help prepare talent for Canada's clean energy future," said Kevin Weaver, President and CEO of Georgian College. "This partnership connects our students and apprentices to one of the country's fastest-growing sectors, combining Georgian's hands-on learning with CNA's national insight to create long-term careers in the nuclear sector while strengthening communities."
This partnership also aligns with broader efforts across North America to expand clean energy capacity and create good-paying jobs, as seen in recent agreements between Ontario and New York to advance nuclear technologies and strengthen the nuclear workforce on both sides of the border
Georgian College is playing an increasingly important role in building Ontario's clean energy workforce through programs like Power Engineering Technology, skilled trades and apprenticeships, and applied research in advanced manufacturing and automation. Georgian prepares graduates for careers in nuclear energy, medical isotopes, hydrogen, and other clean technologies. Its Owen Sound Campus is a full-service college in Ontario's Clean Energy Frontier region, where nuclear and related industries drive the local economy.
The CNA is the national voice of Canada's nuclear industry, representing utilities, suppliers, community partners, labour, and academia. Through research, workforce planning, and member engagement, the association works with governments and partners to promote safe, reliable, non-emitting nuclear energy and anticipate future labour market needs.
"As an affiliate member of the CNA, Georgian will gain access to sector and workforce research, national events, webinars, the Nuclear Jobs Canada job board, and a network of nuclear employers and partners across the country," said CNA President & CEO, George Christidis. Under the MOU, Georgian and the CNA will explore opportunities to expand experiential learning with industry partners, support applied research aligned with sector priorities, and raise awareness of nuclear and clean energy careers among youth and underrepresented groups."
