Pursing an education in health and community services is becoming more accessible for Medicine Hat College (MHC) students, thanks to the generous support of the Medicine Hat Health Foundation (MHHF).Â
Dedicated to supporting those in helping and caring outcomes, MHHF is doubling their support for students in the Yuill School of Health & Community Services. Their increased commitment allows for continued support to students in Health Care Aide, Occupational/Physical Therapist Assistant, Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, Practical Nurse, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Paramedic programs, while also extending support for those enrolled in new programs, including the Addictions Counselling, Kinesiology, and Pharmacy Technician diplomas.Â
The funding will be distributed through bursaries and students are eligible for awards valued between $1000-$2000. Â
"Many students wouldn't be able to complete our health programs without the generous support the Medicine Hat Health Foundation. Their support enables us to fulfill our mission to grow a vibrant future with learners and our region," says Jason Openo, dean of the Yuill School of Health & Community Services. "For learners, the bursaries increase accessibility for financially challenged students who obtain credentials, fill in-demand occupations, and this partnership increases the likelihood that graduates will stay in our region."Â Â
The awards will be available over the next five years and students can apply through MHC's annual scholarship and bursary application, which opens on March 1.Â
"We are honored to be supporting tomorrow's surgeons, physicians, nurses, paramedics, therapist, and healthcare professionals," says Heather Bach, executive director at MHHF. "Many students from Medicine Hat College undertake their practicum studies at the Medical Hat Regional Hospital. This partnership is creating brighter outcomes for everyone in Medicine Hat and the region."Â
