VANIER COLLEGE
Vanier College offers a new program to support First Nations students' college admission

April 10, 2026

Designed specifically for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students, Vanier College's new Tetewá:neren - Connections springboard profile is an alternative pathway to college admission tailored to a student's program of interest. The profile is now open for applications for Fall 2026.

During this 1-year, 2-semester program, students complete a mix of remedial, general education, and optional courses that allow them to meet program prerequisites while earning credits towards their diploma.

Course content is designed and developed in consultation with Indigenous educators and community members, emphasizing Indigenous pedagogical approaches and ways of knowing. Students also benefit from mentorship and tutoring from culturally aware staff, and opportunities to participate in Indigenous social and cultural activities to complement their learning.

Vanier also offers several support strategies:

"As part of Truth and Reconciliation calls to action, a number of Vanier employees have been championing this request for years and working towards its realization," says Kelly Purdy, Dean Faculty of General and Specialized Education. "We are pleased that Vanier is now offering this new Springboard profile.
