Promising Alumni award winner for 2026, Monika Bhardwaj

Since graduating in 2023, Monika Bhardwaj has built a career leading people and organizational development initiatives across multiple industries including natural resources, public sector services and unionized manufacturing.

"I'm honoured to be recognized in this way," says Monika. "This moment gives me an opportunity to reflect on how far I've come and to celebrate not only my own achievements, but also the family, mentors, teachers and friends who have helped shape my journey. Camosun has been instrumental in my development, giving me the confidence and courage to build a future filled with possibilities."

Monika moved from India to Canada with a Bachelor of Psychology in 2021, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, to pursue post-degree studies at Camosun. As an engaged and active student, she sought opportunities to support and represent diverse student voices while contributing to a more inclusive campus community.

She served on the Board of Directors for Camosun College Student Society and was recognized for her academic and service achievements with 2023 Lieutenant Governor's Medal for Inclusion, Democracy and Reconciliation.

"Wherever I've worked, whether in co-op or professional positions, I've taken lessons and roles from the college. Every lens I've developed through my studies has contributed to setting me up for success."

Monika exemplifies lifelong learning, consistently investing time and effort to deepen her knowledge after graduation and strengthen her ability to lead with insight, empathy and impact. She earned Charter Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation in 2025, became certified in advanced leadership practices and completed specialized trauma-informed training.

"Congratulations, Monika, for your outstanding commitment to your community and to ongoing learning," says Dr. Lane Trotter, president of Camosun College. "We deeply admire your efforts to lead with heart and skill."

Monika's advice to current grads is characteristically uplifting and empathetic. "We're navigating tremendous change in technology, the workforce, and education," she says. "While change can be hard, but don't let it overwhelm you. Stay curious, do your research and resist the urge to map out your entire life at once. Take things one day at a time, don't worry too much about the future and trust your path will unfold as it should be."

The annual alumni awards highlight the outstanding achievements of individuals who exemplify Camosun's commitment to excellence and service, and who continue to make significant contributions in their fields. Camosun's Promising Alumni Award recognizes outstanding alumni who have graduated within the last 10 years.
