Suncrest College hosted regional and sector leaders from community, industry, education, and municipal partners on June 16 to advance a bold, shared vision for agriculture education in rural Saskatchewan.

The "Visioning Agriculture Futures in Melfort" forum brought together a diverse group of participants to co-create a shared, long-term vision for agriculture that connects education, community, and industry.

Facilitated by Dr. Tom Thompson, former President of Olds College, the session was designed to move from ideas toward actionable outcomes. Participants focused on identifying opportunities, priorities, and practical next steps for agriculture education and innovation in the region.

"This was a powerful opportunity to bring leaders and partners together to define what agriculture in the year 2050 will need from education," said Alison Dubreuil, President and CEO of Suncrest College. "We are committed to building the workforce - and that work depends on strong industry partnership and investment."

"From a Board perspective, this work supports our value of being future focused ensuring Suncrest College is aligned with the needs of our communities, our industries, and the long-term economic future of the region," said Corinna Stevenson, Board Chair. "Melfort is a vital part of Suncrest College a community with deep agricultural roots and significant opportunity ahead."

This work will continue over the coming months, with insights from the forum informing future planning and strategic direction. Advancing this vision will require continued collaboration and partnership to support innovation and workforce development. across the agriculture sector.
