Some of the most impactful lessons aren't found in textbooks - they're learned through experience. That was the focus of RRC Polytech's second annual Industry to Classroom event, where nurses were invited to explore a career in teaching by touring facilities and hearing directly from students and faculty members.
This spring, RRC Polytech welcomed more than 100 nursing and healthcare professionals to two sessions to learn how their expertise can help shape the next generation of nurses.
"As a leader in nursing education, RRC Polytech supports Manitoba's healthcare workforce needs by providing graduates who are highly skilled and industry ready, thanks to the exceptional educators at our institution," said Tamara Chambers-Richards, Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Community Services at RRC Polytech.
The event was an opportunity for individuals who are curious about a career change or looking to combine their clinical practice with teaching to discover the rewards and benefits of being an educator.
Guests learned more about RRC Polytech's Nursing Program, including the newest training space, the Interdisciplinary Health and Community Services Simulation Centre (Simulation Centre), where nursing and allied health students gain rich experiential skills in a supportive environment with instructors who provide knowledge and guidance from their own clinical experience.
Instructors and program chairs shared their experiences making the leap from clinical practice to teaching during a panel discussion. Current students also joined the discussion to highlight the support and encouragement their instructors have provided along their educational journeys so far.
After panelists answered questions, the event wrapped up with guided tours of the Simulation Centre - which was a highlight for many guests!
Here's what guests had to say about the event:
- "Hearing from students and staff was insightful."
- "I came away from this event feeling excited about the potential to join this team of dedicated nurse educators."
- "This was my first time on campus. Really impressed with what I saw. The simulation labs were impressive and so much better than what was available in the early 2000s when I trained."
