Students at NAIT will gain new opportunities to explore careers in one of Alberta's growing sectors through a new partnership with Optima Living. The collaboration connects students from NAIT's JR Shaw School of Business with real-world experiences in seniors living, while supporting Optima Living's commitment to hospitality excellence across Alberta.

Starting in the new year, students enrolled in NAIT's Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Business Administration diploma and Culinary Arts diploma programs are expected to participate in the partnership's first phase.
"Alberta's seniors living sector offers a wide range of career opportunities, and this collaboration helps connect students to that growing demand. This opportunity allows students to apply their learning, build professional networks and gain valuable industry experience. We're excited to work with Optima Living to create opportunities for students, while supporting the evolving needs of seniors."
Dennis Sheppard, Dean, JR Shaw School of Business, NAIT
The partnership is designed to help students apply classroom learning in professional settings while introducing them to career opportunities in hospitality, culinary services, business operations, technology and community services. Students will be able to participate in co-operative education placements, capstone projects and applied research initiatives that support resident experiences in seniors living.
"Seniors living is ultimately about people and relationships. This partnership gives students the chance to see firsthand the difference they can make, whether working directly with residents in our communities or alongside teams in our support offices. We're excited to welcome students to Optima Living and help them discover the many ways they can contribute to the lives of older adults."
Angela Grottoli , Chief Operating Officer, Optima Living
As Alberta's population ages, demand continues to grow for skilled professionals who can deliver exceptional experiences and services for seniors. For Optima Living, the collaboration introduces more students to careers in seniors living and helps build awareness of the diverse employment opportunities available in the sector.
The partnership was announced at Optima Living's annual Basecamp leadership gathering in Edmonton and will begin launching opportunities for students in early 2027, with plans to expand the collaboration over time.
