Saskatchewan Polytechnic is reporting its highest Indigenous student enrolment in five years, with a total of 1,425 Indigenous students enrolled for the 2026 fall term.
This represents a 19 per cent increase over fall 2025. Growth was seen across all training levels, including a 12 per cent increase in certificate, diploma and degree programs.
The increase reflects Sask Polytech's commitment to Indigenous student success through targeted recruitment efforts and comprehensive supports offered before and throughout a student's educational journey as part of the wītōkamāhtōtān Indigenous Student Success Strategy.
"The continued growth in Indigenous student enrolment reflects our commitment to creating inclusive learning environments and meaningful pathways to education and employment," says Dr. Larry Rosia, president and CEO of Sask Polytech. "Indigenous learners are important to Saskatchewan's future workforce, and we are proud to support them as they pursue their educational and career goals at Sask Polytech."
The growth comes during a challenging period for the post-secondary sector. Overall fall enrolment is 9,835 students, down four per cent from fall 2025. The decline is primarily due to a 44 per cent reduction in international student enrolment. Domestic enrolment, remains stable, with certificate, diploma and degree enrolment increasing by one per cent.
"These results demonstrate the ongoing demand for polytechnic education across Saskatchewan," says Dr. Rosia. "As the post-secondary landscape continues to evolve, we remain focused on delivering high-quality, hands-on education that prepares learners for successful careers and helps meet the province's workforce needs."
