On Sunday, September 3, NBC held its annual Opening Sunday BBQ to welcome new students. This event is a chance for constituents to meet the new students, hear what the new year is expected to look like and to pray for the college. Academic Dean, Lindsay Anderson, introduced current students and staff through a slideshow followed by board member Lisa Barber praying for the college. This fall, there are 21 freshmen, 22 juniors, 13 seniors and 4 fourth year students for a total of 60 students.
Additionally, NBC also took time to officially install its 12th president. Lance Schubert was welcomed to the NBC community by board member Brad Steppan. Former President, Dr. Wes Dobson gave a charge to Lance, who then responded with a commitment to taking the office seriously relying on God's Holy Spirit to carry out his duties and responsibilities. Gary Brown, another board member, presented a gift to Lance and his wife, Melanie - a Roughrider's jersey and flowers. NBC staff & faculty, Wes Dobson and board members then prayed for Lance & Melanie to conclude the installation service.
Lance has a rich and diverse background in education and training, including studies at Liberty University, Edmonton Baptist Seminary and North American Baptist College/Taylor University. For the last three years, Lance has worked as a Fire and Explosion Investigator/Special Constable with the Ontario Provincial Police. Prior to this, he served as a senior pastor, primarily with the AGC, for twenty years. He brings experience in youth ministry, church planting, and chaplaincy. Since he has also served as adjunct faculty with NBC, he is no stranger to the college and we are confident that he will serve the college with passion and excellence.
The Schuberts officially moved to NBC campus on August 5 and Lance's first day in the office was Wednesday, Aug. 9. Lance and Melanie have three adult sons and a daughter-in-law.
Lance invites any interaction with alumni or supporters who want to get to know him or the college better. Words of congratulations and blessings can be passed on at info@nipawin.org.
