Whether you are redecorating your home, office or outdoor space, students in the Interior Decorating diploma program are offering free consultations to help clients design their living spaces at the Decor Design Dilemma event.
In the Learning Resource Commons at North Campus, students are meeting with the Humber community and other visitors to review photos of their current living spaces. Surrounded by renderings and projects created throughout the two-year program, students are tasked with providing ideas and feedback to enhance the look and feel of the rooms their walk-in clients want to improve.
"Part of the education system is reaching that point when you graduate and think I can do this,' and as soon as you have the opportunity to talk to someone and give them advice on everything that you've learned, it gives you that much more confidence to go out there and get a job," says Vanessa Vilic Evangelista, Interior Decorating program coordinator.
Throughout the program students have worked with clients on projects including designing a cottage and renovating a home.
Vilic Evangelista says the program has a focus on residential design compared to the Interior Design program with focuses on residential, commercial spaces and more. However, "we are trying to encourage students to jump from Interior Decorating to Interior Design and for it to be a smooth transition."
Natasha and Vanessa Di Paola will be starting the Bachelor of Interior Design program as second-year students after graduating from the Interior Decorating program this spring.
