The Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (Barrett CTI) hosted their first all-female workshop where students participated in various technically-focused and STEAM-related activities.
Visiting from Ottawa, more than 25 high school students from Renfrew County Catholic District School Board participated in workshops led by Barrett CTI work-study students. The Humber students spent the day as facilitators engaging participants in robotics, programming, and art-based activities involving the use of the JADE robot - an expandable mobile robot with a multitude of sensors.
During their training sessions, members of Humber Skills Mechatronics team also gave a demonstration highlighting the concepts and technologies involving mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, and pneumatics of the skills cells.
Tina Noel, who is the Experiential Learning Coordinator from Renfrew Country, says the students enjoyed their experience on campus and were amazed they were able to learn coding in a short time period under the direction of students.
"They loved the connection between technology and art. They were engaged and willing to try even though they were making mistakes. It was perfect," says Noel.
