CÉGEP HERITAGE COLLEGE
College Renews Academic Dean Mandate

June 4, 2019

The Board of Governors of Cégep Heritage College unanimously renewed the mandate of its Academic Dean Roya Abouzia for another 5 years at a meeting on May 29.

As Academic Dean since 2014, Roya's approach has been a mentoring, collaborative, and inclusive one where she led by role-modeling the best practices and the values inherent to them. She created opportunities for enhancing our experience of teaching and learning at Heritage within the ever-changing landscape of College education by encouraging people to seek the best in themselves for the betterment of others.

She was instrumental in bringing and building the new Special Care Counselling program in response to community needs. She led the College's response to the Quality Assurance audit by the Commission de l'évaluation de l'enseignement collégial (CEEC), and also guided policy change through a values and cultural approach for improved student achievement and academic integrity.

We look forward to her continued commitment to establishing a community with common goals based on strong educational principles, to enhancing the relationships between faculty, professionals and students, and to broadening our academic practices by working closely with community partners.

Michael Randall, Director General, is very pleased that the Board of Governors has chosen to renew Ms Abouzia's mandate and would like to further acknowledge the value of Roya's contributions in shaping the College's role of education in the wider community.
