The Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE) celebrated in October the opening of its Building Environmental Systems Lab providing learners with greater access to the latest technology.
The celebration was to thank the seven company sponsors who contributed to the establishment of the new lab. As a token of appreciation, representatives from the companies were presented with a "Sponsor Award," and were among the first to see the result of their donations.
"This means we can now have practical demonstrations, and experience hands-on commercial equipment for our students to touch and experiment with . . . the number of students impacted will be at different levels but it will be a few hundred at least each term," said Christopher Hahn, Dean of ACCE and the event's MC. He added that the new Automated Building Lab will "compliment the instruction in many programs" such as the Bachelor of Building Science, Energy management, Building Automation System Operator (BASO), Electrical Engineering, Architecture, and Heating Refrigeration & Air Condition (HRAC).
In his remarks to the donors, professors and learners in attendance, Chris Janzen, Acting Vice President, Academic, said the lab will provide "experiential learning and applied research projects on a real system, which aligns well with AC's vision." Having access to the latest technology will help prepare learners for their working-life post graduation and will make them more "employable" in their field.
