Vanier College is pleased to announce a newly revised Financial Services and Insurance (410.F0) program. It is the only program of its kind offered by an English CEGEP in Quebec. The new program, designed in consultation with industry experts, will prepare students for a variety of interesting and well-paying careers in financial services, banking and insurance. The program is accredited by the Autorité des Marchés financiers Québec (AMF) and students will qualify to write professional exams recognized and demanded by employers in the financial services and insurance sectors.*
The program will allow students to develop skills that will permit them to counsel clients on a host of financial issues including financial, tax and estate planning, investing, credit, and insurance. The curriculum includes courses in general management and business as well as specialized courses in financial services (wealth management, investments, finance, credit management) and insurance (insurance of persons, personal and commercial damage insurance, claims and underwriting). Students will learn to master current business and industry specific software. All students complete a 6-week internship at the end of their program and are expected to write at least one industry specific set of exams.
The program is suited for students that like working and interacting with the public, are bilingual and have a facility and interest in working with financial information. Career possibilities for our graduates include financial advising, credit analysis, damage insurance customer service and sales, life insurance, risk and underwriting and claims investigation or a furthering of their education at university. Career placement rates for graduates exceed 90% with average starting salaries of over $40,000, and excellent prospects for career advancement.
"We are extremely excited about our revised Financial Services and Insurance program. The timing could not be better. There is a huge demand for qualified personnel in the financial services sector and our students going to get a cutting edge, comprehensive and hands-on financial education," said Andy Gates, Vanier teacher responsible for the new program.
