Under the responsibility of the Environmental Committee Eco St. Lo, CEGEP Champlain - St. Lawrence has acquired an indoors hydroponic garden, a sustainable development initiative. St. Lawrence is the only CEGEP in Québec to have an indoors hydroponic garden.
More than a simple garden, it is an innovative project around which students and staff members collaborate to produce fresh, quality vegetables, that will be sold and consumed locally. Already raising interest within the school community, the garden will foster interaction between students and staff members from different disciplines and programs.
On top of the inherent pedagogical aspect in agriculture, most specifically in hydroponics, this project is the ground for entrepreneurship, where students will learn how to hold a budget, apply market laws, establish partnerships to sell the vegetables, and even manage profits. Eco St. Lo supervises the initiative, and will ensure that profits generated with the hydroponic garden will fund other student initiatives in sustainable development on campus.
A great initiative from and for our students!
