CONFEDERATION COLLEGE
Welcome New Ombudsperson Paul Straiton

February 20, 2020

SUCCI and Confederation College are pleased to welcome new Ombudsperson Paul Straiton.

Paul has a strong connection with Confederation College.  He is a graduate of the Aviation (Flight) Management Program and has taught on a part-time basis in the Aboriginal Law and Advocacy Program and in the Human Resources Program.   He has also served on the International Business Program's advisory committee.  Before attending Confederation College, Paul graduated with a forestry degree from Lakehead University.  After having worked in the airline industry in Northwestern Ontario for 11 years in various positions, Paul attended Queen's University and returned to Thunder Bay to practice law.  Paul, who was a French immersion student, speaks French as a second language.  For several years, he was a reservist with the Naval Reserve in Thunder Bay.  Paul is originally from southern Ontario, but has lived most of his life in Thunder Bay and has visited many of the communities in the College's catchment area.

Having both studied and taught at Confederation College, Paul can see both the student and the faculty member's perspective in relation to disputes that can arise in an academic setting, and he looks forward to using his dispute resolution skills to help students succeed while at the same time upholding the College's ideals.  The Ombuds office is open Monday to Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Appointments can be arranged at other times on weekdays during the College's usual business hours.
