Cambrian College's Applied Research department has a new identity and a new website to reflect its evolution and to better serve its growing clientele of industry partners.
Cambrian Applied Research is now Cambrian R&D.
"Increasingly, we are getting involved in major research and development projects with industry, so Cambrian R&D is a perfect fit from that perspective," says Mike Commito, Director of Cambrian R&D. "No matter the industry, people understand what R&D means. We want our name to reflect what we're actually doing, and hopefully encourage more industry partners to think of Cambrian's students, faculty, and researchers when it comes to helping them achieve their goals."
The new website for Cambrian R&D is https://cambriancollege.ca/rd/.
On the site, industry and other research partners will be guided through the R&D process and how Cambrian can help. Cambrian R&D has several key goals including:
- Increasing partnerships with industry to find solutions to real-world, real-time challenges
- Helping industry bring new innovations and processes to the marketplace
- Increasing R&D opportunities for employees, faculty, and students
The new identity and website redesign is the result of a year-long process of Cambrian R&D examining how it has changed and where it is going.
"This was a tremendous undertaking, and it took a lot of work and creativity from so many partners and people throughout the Cambrian community," says Kristine Morrissey, Vice-President International, Finance and Administration, and Applied Research at Cambrian. "This new identity celebrates both our roots in academics and our future as a go-to place for industry to research, test, and put in place new innovations."

It has been a year of incredible growth and achievement for Cambrian R&D. For the eighth year in a row, Cambrian made the list of Canada's top 40 research colleges, in particular for its use of paid student researchers. It also received a national designation as a Technology Access Centre for its Centre for Smart Mining.
Research projects at Cambrian R&D are not limited to mining. They include agriculture, manufacturing environmental rehabilitation, and workplace safety.
All of Cambrian's R&D projects include paid student researchers.
