LANGARA COLLEGE
Vancouver Centre for Entertainment Arts and Wind Sun Sky announce strategic initiative for student work experience

June 17, 2020

Vancouver Centre for Entertainment Arts (VCEA) is proud to announce a strategic alliance with Wind Sun Sky Entertainment/ Skybound North (WSS/SBN), a multi-platform digital production company based in Vancouver, for the launch of our student work experience initiative. The VCEA work initiative provides stand-out students the opportunity to challenge themselves and their newly-acquired skills on real productions, in acclaimed studios, under the mentorship of trusted industry professionals.

Catherine Winder, CEO/Executive Producer of Wind Sun Sky/Skybound North Entertainment, helped launch the initiative alongside Tyler Weiss, Vancouver CEA's Vice-President Strategic Initiatives, as they both believe in the mutual benefit of the cross collaboration between students and professionals.

"The CEA gives students a jumpstart to develop the necessary skills required to build successful careers in the media business. By contributing to our projects, the students are gaining significant real-world experience in their fields. It is a win-win situation for all involved as the students are doing a fantastic job and we are building relationships with potential future employees," says Winder.

"It's always a sink or swim scenario for new graduates when they land their first job and are thrown into the fast-paced reality of a real-world production. As a producer, it would dramatically increase my preference for hiring a new grad as well as increase the efficiency of the onboarding process knowing they have been on the frontlines, have experience reacting to supervisor and client feedback, and have zero illusions about the challenge ahead," added Tyler Weiss, Vice-President, Strategic Initiatives, Vancouver CEA.
